Chameleon Plant (Houttuynia cordata)

Browse Category:
SKU: DP-HSWCP

The chameleon plant features boldly variegated leaves of red, pink, white, green, and yellow that will grow to about one foot tall.  This aquatic plant or border plant is very easy to propagate by divining or cutting. The variegation becomes more pronounced with increased exposure to the sun but too much can cause the leaves to scorch.

I would STAY AWAY from this plant. It is INVASIVE and won't stop growing where it isn't supposed to. I've tried digging it out several times and it just keeps coming back. I am going to the place where I got it several years ago, and ask them to replace the other plants that it has choked. If you're going to get this one, be sure you only plant it where it is contained. Otherwise, it will be a lost cause in short order.

It's a great plant but you should only plant where you want the plant to stay. Its runners go underground and are now popping up in my lawn. The plant takes a while to start growing from the winter months - don't think just because you don't see any that they have died. They may be slow starting to awaken from winter, but then they are off and running. Quite invasive!
