Aquascapes redesigned the seal/shaft interface for 2005, which provides you with the most durable, heat and abrasion resistant mechanical seal money can buy! Double mechanical seals. Aquascapes Designs’ horizontal pumps utilize an industrial grade double mechanical seal in a non-toxic mineral oil cooled chamber. The outboard seal faces are long life silicone carbide material, which is a premium seal of the more commonly used, less expensive carbon ceramic seals found in most sump pumps.
All pumps in the Aquascape Designs’ product line are specifically designed to support the demanding requirements for 24 hour/7days/week operating condition of a water garden. Continuous operation heightens the importance of proper pump selection to minimize power consumption yet deliver enough flow to produce the natural sights and sounds of a beautiful water feature.
Aquascape Designs had experienced the use of vertical pumps for years and found themselves frustrated by the fact that they just aren’t right for the water garden industry. High profile vertical pump designs work well for intermittent use as a sump pump, but left something to be desired when using them in a water garden skimmer. So Aquascape Designs went back to the drawing board and designed a family of pumps that are exclusively designed for use in a skimmer. The low profile design allows the pump to easily fit below the skimmer filter mat. The performance flow rate and head capabilities across the Aquascape Designs Pump line provide a wide selection of pumps to meet your water garden project requirements.
Motors on the Aquascape Designs product line are matched with the impeller to provide optimum efficiency and solids handling capability. This balance between motor efficiency and robustness of a solids handling impeller provides the best operating cost and non-clogging pump performance. Additionally, every Aquascape Designs Pump comes protected with a thermal switch to protect the motor from any upset conditions that produce overheating.
Aquascape Designs’ horizontal design maximizes the service life of the pump by minimizing the wear and tear on the internal parts. This is why the vast majority of pumps and electric motors sold in the world are of the horizontal design. The critical load created in the pump’s volute is applied in a direction perpendicular to the shaft. In other words, all forces are acting in a direction much like the bearings of a wheel.
Vortex solids handling impeller – Aquascape Designs wants a pond owner to enjoy their pond and not have to constantly maintain it. Pumps with screened intakes are a maintenance nightmare… even when housed in a skimmer! The horizontal solids handling capabilities of these pumps reduce maintenance, allowing debris to be passed through the pump volute.

I had a SFA3000 for two years. It began to screach and shortly after quit. I purchased another SFA3000 and it quit after 11 mos. Bearing again. Not too reliable in my opinion for the cost.

My Second AS300 pump gives out a high pitched screach. It is in use only 6 months. Probably a bearing noise.
My first AS300 pump burned out after only 3 months use.

I have an AS3000 pump and have been running it continuously for 2 years. It is now beginning to make a humming noise. I suspect shaft corrosion or a bearing going bad.

I have owned 2 Aquascape Design pumps both SFA3000 models. Installed in my ponds in 2004.Both have failed. These pumps develop high internal resistance and shut down the pond GFI circuits. Warning signs are intermittent shut down and bearing noise.

Well, I wish I had read the previous reviews before I purchased my aquascape pump. My pond installer selected this kit for us, at that time he felt it was among the best. Two year later, guess what? My pond pump failed just like the previous customers comments. Internal short developed and shut down the GFI circuit system. I tried to have it repaired, at first, not knowing what the problem was, but the technician that checked it out, stated the bearings and seals were bad and when he went to put everything back together the wiring was shot. He told me it was not worth fixing. It was SHOT! I think Aquascape should recall their pumps. They all seem to have the same problem. Needless to say, I'm not going back for more! I will purchase another make this time!
